Head coach Marc has a long and illustrious sports career behind him.

Starting at school, Marc represented his school and his county at Football, Rugby, Hockey, Cross Country, and Triple Jump, as well as taking part in many other sports.

He started racing triathlons in 1998 when he raced at the Langport Sprint distance Tri in Somerset. Since then he has taken part in races all over the country in every distance and format from sprint distance through to Ironman.

During his University Career, Marc dabbled in a few new sports as well as continuing to train for Triathlon (and finding time to do enough work to secure a 2:1 Degree in International Tourism Management), representing the University at Rugby League as well as working as Chairman of the Swimming Club, taking a team, and swimming himself at the BUSA National Championships as well as reaching the BUSA North West Regional Finals. Marc was awarded the Sports Personality of the Year in recognition of his efforts and of his dedication to coaching and coordinating the Swimming Team.

Following University, Marc decided to focus on triathlon and started training for an Ironman Distance race which he attempted in 2005 in France. After failing to finish, collapsing with 8 miles to go on the run, he decided that working with sports people would be a much easier way to be involved in the sport and started working as a Sports Development Offcer at North Somerset Council. Following 2 years here, and putting on some major events including a festival of sport for 1000 children, several aquathlon races, as well as setting up schemes supporting International level Sportspeople, he decided that he wanted to go it alone….and Sole Events was born.

With a desire to use his knowledge and love of sports he set up several sports events including the Harptree Havoc and the hugely successful FitBiz Challenge. Alongside this, he decided that he wanted to coach cycling to children in schools, to give them a lifelong appreciation and love of the sport that he has enjoyed for so many years.

‘When I set up Sole Events I wanted to encourage people of all levels to get involved in sport, whatever their level I firmly believe that enjoyment is the key to improvement…We now coach regularly in schools accross North Somerset and Bristol and we are starting to receive some recognition for the fantastic work we are doing. We hope to progress this in 2008 and beyond, and use the positive influence of events such as the Olympic Games to encourage people to take part in any kind of physical activity.

We offer cycling to all levels of ability and age, we have bikes that people can borrow and we have use of some of the best facilities in the country in my opinion. Our groups that meet regularly have come on massively in the short time we have been coaching them, and are looking forward to achieving their goals this year. We are also increasing our level of events and are also offering personal training as we believe that people can use us to get started and to make the most of their training’

Some of Marc’s achievements and qualifications are listed below

Triathlon – ‘Too many races to mention that I should and could have done better in but some of my best races came in 2002 when I took part in the national ranking series and finished 3rd in my age group, my favourite race of that year was probably Brighton where I finished 26th overall in 2.14, not a world beating time, but my first Olympic distance race and a hard race!’

‘I had a good season in 2005 when training for the Ironman and came 3rd in the Gloucester Triathlon among a few other good results.’
