Adam O’Loughlin
Adam has been riding and helping out with the Wed night sessions at Ashton Court as well as working with us on some summer holiday activities for the kids in the Southmead area of Bristol.
After suffering a huge (and highly entertaining) crash during the summer holiday activities, he is now back to full fitness and is looking forward to racing again.
We asked him to tell us more about himself…
‘I’m 32, and I live in Bristol. I started riding my bike properly in about 1990 after doing a British Heart Foundation charity ride between Birmingham and Oxford, having never ridden more than 10 miles in my life! I then joined the local club (Ely and District CC) and started doing local time trials and stuff. I was junior Eastern Division champion in 1994 at….Grass Track! I then went to Uni in 1996, and discovered that beer and women were more entertaining and pretty much stopped riding any kind of bike until 2003, when I moved to Newport. I then had very little excuse, having a great big velodrome less than 2 miles away, and so got back into racing again in 2004. Shame I’m not much good at it really…..
I’m fully intending to make 2nd Cat in 2009, and ride either the National Masters Track Championsips or the Ras de Cymru, (If I can convince you lot to do it too!) as well as the European Masters Track Championships.’
Adam now has a level British Cycling level 2 qualification and is also Bikeability trained, so anyone who fancies a bit of road riding should speak to Adam, or one of the other coaches and they will be happy to give some advice.
Marc and Adam have been working on a scheme which will hopefully launch in 2009 and will give young people the opportunity to take part in cycling, near to where they live, more details will appear here when we have them.
