Beach Cricket
Beach Cricket Entry Form – Download here
Weston-super-Mare is the venue for the first cricket competition of it’s type in the South West, or possibly even the country!
Based loosely on the Beach Cricket format which has been so successful in Australia, and has been shown on Sky Sports recently, our version of the game is designed to be even quicker and more exciting.
The first tournament will be held on the beach on August 10th, and will start at 10am.
All teams who enter are guaranteed at least 3 group matches, and for the top 2 in each group, there will be a semi final, and the winners of these will be through to the final.
Each match will follow the same format, each team will have 8 players on the field (from a squad of 10), and each player will bowl 1 over. The batting team will bat in pairs, and will face 2 overs per pair. At the end of 2 overs, the next batsmen will come in and face a further 2 overs, and so on.
Scoring will follow the traditional format with singles, fours and sixes, but any batsmen who is given out, either caught or bowled, will lose five runs. They will then lose the strike for the next bowl, but will continue to bat for their whole 2 overs.
Therefore it is possible for a team to finish on minus runs!
This format makes for exciting and fast cricket which is both fun to play but also great for spectators to watch, which we hope will attract families to come down and support the players.
There will be plenty of room on the beach next to the pitches for spectators to sit and watch, and even play their own mini games while the matches are taking place, so bring a picnic and enjoy the action.
There are numerous beach front cafes nearby selling ice-creams and teas etc, and there are toilets within 30 seconds walk.
To further emphasise our commitment to having a family friendly event, we have arranged for an after party with food at a local venue. We will make the presentation of the trophy here, and hope that people will stay around for a party and enjoy some food, recounting tales of the day.
Anyone who is interested in entering a team should download a form from the top of this page and send it back to us along with their payment as soon as possible, as there are only 8 teams taking part this year.
Pitches are smaller than a traditional cricket pitch and therefore there will be plenty of opportunities to hit those big sixes, and even those who do not normally take part in cricket are welcome to take part as this version of the game is suitable for beginners. We will supply bats for those who do not have their own, and of course match balls wll be supplied by us.
